Power Evangelism


In February, this year, I've been invited to lead a break out session at the upcoming Remnant Radio Conference in San Diego. I'll be teaching on Power Evangelism. As many of you know, I've been doing what I call random street evangelism for many years, and over that time, I've tried a lot of things, made some mistakes, and learned some lessons. Now, I'm trying to put it all together into a teaching that can help others go from wherever they are to feeling confident to get out there and share the gospel.

Last year, I even started writing a book about evangelism, and I discovered that there was almost too much to say. I struggled to figure out where to focus, since pretty much anything could happen in an evangelism encounter. Prepping for the Power Evangelism breakout session has actually helped a ton with the focus. I've decided, I'm not going to try to teach on any apologetic arguments since there are many resources out there for that. Instead, I'm focusing on giving people practical ways to 1) start a conversation, 2) drive a conversation, and 3) introduce the spiritual gifts. The fourth practical thing I will teach is what to do if it doesn't work!

If you're like me, the biggest question in the spiritual gifts world is what to do if you try it, and it doesn't work.  Well, believe it or not, I've tried a lot and seen a lot of prayers for healing and other supernatural signs NOT work. Even in those cases, I've still seen people get saved. 

For the next few weeks, I'll share in these posts what I'll be sharing there. This first week is just the intro, so here is a video intro that I put together about a year ago for a podcast that I thought about making. The title was going to be "Everyday Evangelist," and the idea was that I'd show videos of real evangelism encounters and talk about them in a play-by-play format. I have decided to sideline that idea for now, but I've always loved this video.

This couldn’t wait...

Jerry, serving in the snack room at VBS As of the writing of this post, it’s 3:00 am. I woke up, realizing I hadn’t actually organized strategic prayer for Jerry Slagle yet, and this is no small matter. The original plan was to send out a VBS recap email, but that can wait until next week. Jerry has been fighting cancer for more than two years. Recently, he was given a very sad and scary report from his doctors that he only has limited time left, less than a year. However, two weeks before he got the report, a person on our prayer team had a dream that we believe was from God, telling us that “we need to pray for Jerry.”  Here is the text from that dream: Two weeks ago I had a very intense dream about Jerry Slagle.  In the dream, I knew that he was in a life or death scenario (I assumed the cancer). VBS and Plasma Cannons

  Two weeks ago, we had one of the largest VBS weeks in Wellspring history. This year, as in other years, we heard testimonies of kids starting their discipleship journeys with Jesus, encountering God, and hearing his voice. One of the things I love about VBS is that everyone gets really into it. I am usually in the Bible Drama Room, where we put on skits that include a fun science experiment and end with a moment where we minister to the kids.  I never get the idea that the BDR people are "too cool" to get really into it. On the contrary, sometimes I step back and marvel that a bunch of tired, working adults would spend so much time working on a skit for kids. This year the the Main Stage actors worked even harder! They were up at the church rehearsing numerous evenings and afternoons.
