Youth Takeover Sunday!?



One of the most meaningful parts of my young Christian life was the youth group that I was a part of. It was not a part of a big-budget church, and it didn’t grow by hype or excitement. I believe God was doing something real in that youth group in the late 90s. 

I’ve told the church a few times that I think something is happening in our own youth group at Wellspring. I’ve gotten to hear some of the testimonies of the kids hearing from God. We’ve all seen some of the baptisms, and if you’re at the 11am service on Sundays, you have seen our youth worshipping passionately. Many of you may even have heard that our youth teamed up with some other young believers to put on a youth-planned, youth-led worship event at the end of last school year!

This Sunday, I want to highlight the youth group in a special way and give the youth a chance to take a little more ownership in the Sunday service. That is why we hatched a plan called Youth Takeover Sunday. The youth group already does a youth takeover of kids ministry, where they volunteer to serve, but this Sunday, the youth are going to be incorporated into even more of the Sunday service… And they are also serving in the kids' ministry. They are really putting that youthful energy to work for the kingdom.

You will see our youth on the greeting team, the worship team, the kids ministry team, the prayer team, and even preaching… just kidding. Hunter, the Associate Youth Pastor, will be preaching and leading us into a ministry time after the sermon that is a little more of the flavor of the Youth Wednesday night service. 

I’m looking forward to this Youth Takeover Sunday, so be in prayer that God will move among us and that more young people will taste and see that the Lord is good.

This couldn’t wait...

Jerry, serving in the snack room at VBS As of the writing of this post, it’s 3:00 am. I woke up, realizing I hadn’t actually organized strategic prayer for Jerry Slagle yet, and this is no small matter. The original plan was to send out a VBS recap email, but that can wait until next week. Jerry has been fighting cancer for more than two years. Recently, he was given a very sad and scary report from his doctors that he only has limited time left, less than a year. What is your assignment as a Disciple?

From the Pastor's Desk In the sermon "The Job Description of a Disciple," I shared one of my favorite Christian practices: listening to, reading, and watching great Christian testimonies.
