Wait! Did we accidentally worship a Pagan goddess?

I'm sure you've heard that Easter is named after a goddess named Ishtar or the Germanic goddess Eostur and that celebrating Easter is a deception brought into Christian practice that pollutes our worship of Jesus. I used to believe that myself, but here's why I don't anymore. And guess what, the answer is deeply linguistic, so buckle up! You can find a good amount of this explanation in this video by Wes Huff, but I will connect a few more dots in this post. It would be better to read this explanation BEFORE watching Huff's video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q31k28_rdTg ____ What does Easter have to do with Ishtar. Literally nothing. The words just sound the same. Huff's video goes into a little more detail, but basically, the word "Easter" only shows up in Germanic languages, and Ishtar is not from Germanic origin, so it's a far cry to assume that ONLY the germanic speaking people adopted a holiday to celebrate a goddess from another language...

Kenya 2025 Part 4/4

The fourth day of the Kenya trip was not really the forth actual day on the ground, but it was the fourth day of ministry. We gathered for prayer, ate breakfast, and went to the final part of the conference, but on this day, we didn't have any workshops to teach, so we booked A LOT of ministry outside the conference.  We went with Kariz and his Count Me In team to Dandora, the slum of Nairobi. Kariz is from the slum and has gone back to start churches. The first stop on our trip was an outreach at Kariz's church. The team brought school children from somewhere in the slum, and we got to minister to them in Kariz's church building. We sang and danced to start things off. Then Drew Scott preached. It wasn't the first time he preached on the trip, but this was the first time I heard him. It was a good, compelling message, and at the end several kids gave their lives to the Lord.  Dancing at the beginning of the service Drew, preaching in Dandora Praying with several kids...

Kenya update pt 3

Don't you just wish you could take one of those cute African kids back to the ... oh wait, that's my son. -Dustin Day 3 in Kenya was structured much like Day 2: Morning prayer, conference, workshops, outreach with Gideon & Tez and Kariz. We started with prayer, but we were a little more tired of course. During prayer, I felt led to encourage the group to pray specifically for things we wanted to see. We asked God to give us a sign of what he wanted to do, and during that simple prayer, Cat's hands started to burn. She laid hands on Hunter's back and Hunter felt something rush through his body. The overwhelming fatigue that he had been feeling seemed to disappear at that exact moment! During that rest of the morning prayer meeting, we asked to see healing, deliverances, and salvations. We all sort of dragged ourselves to the prayer meeting, but leaving, we were filled with fresh energy for the day... which was going to be a very long one. During the conference that da...

Kenya 2025 day 2

On day two, we got up early and met for prayer before breakfast and starting the day. The first part of the day was all CMM conference, but this morning prayer time would come in pretty handy later. I preached a message that Ronnie first invited me to preach three years ago, the story of how I became the pastor of Wellspring.  He said the pastors at the conference would need to hear it because our story was so unique in how Michael and the whole church approached things. Apparently it’s common in Kenya for leaders to oppress and mistreat their up-and-coming leaders. And it’s common for those young leaders to stage mutinies and split churches to take power.  Ronnie said they would be blessed and impressed by how smooth and God-honoring the Wellspring story was. Here is a link to my sermon, Give Your Disciple a Double Portion .  ______ After that, we broke into two groups and ran two different workshops: “Impartation of Genuine Prophecy” and “Impartation of Genuine Healing....
