In case you wanted to know more

 From the Pastor's Desk

Every Monday, I get the chance to make this post, highlighting things from the previous Sunday that I want you to know more about. Here are two items from yesterday that you may be wanting to know more about.

The Testimony I mentioned in the sermon

During the sermon, I referenced a "powerful testimony" that I believe God had me listen to at precisely the right time to influence the WHOLE ending of the sermon. The guy in this testimony lives in the DFW area and references several places around here, which is kind of fun, and he is a pretty funny storyteller overall.  Enjoy!

The Parking Lot

Before the sermon, I gave an update on expanding our parking lot. If you missed it, you can listen here: Parking Lot Update

As part of faithfully taking our next step of obedience, we will say "goodbye" to our big oak tree in front of the church and replace it with 13 young trees, all of which have the potential to grow to be the same height as the one we're losing. We will also be putting in 6 Crepe Myrtles, and 72 Holly shrubs.

If you're having trouble visualizing it, here are the city plans, plus some extra color that I added to make it pop! 😉

Notes from the Sermon

Sermon Title: How to Obey

What to Believe

  • Knowing how to obey is not the same as obeying.g
  • If we love Jesus, we will keep his commands. Our obedience is motivated by our love for Jesus. When we desire to not do anything offensive to the Lord, we can pray for His conviction, which is his gift to us through the Holy Spirit.
  •  The Holy Spirit is the helper of obedience. Our obedience is assisted AND empowered by the Holy Spirit.
  • Our obedience is fulfilled by our showing love for others. KEY: Our obedience does not save us!! His obedience does.

How to Obey

Imitate Christ and those who follow him

  • Teaching someone How to obey means showing them how you obey.
  • This happens in large gatherings,  small groups, micro groups – close friendships, 1-to-1 (mentor to mentee).
  • KEY: Ask “God for a good close friend” (In addition to your spouse)

How to Walk Intimately with God

  • A closer relationship with the Lord opens the door for greater discipleship opportunities.
