Disciples Who Hear God's Voice

Several of us have been praying for Jerry Slegle since the doctors took him off his medication and told him he had less than a year to live. BEFORE Jerry got that bad news, a member of the church had a dream that the church had been alerted to pray for Jerry to be healed. All month, several of us have been praying and fasting on a schedule to make sure on each day of the week someone is praying and fasting for Jerry. August is over, so I'm sending out the signup sheet again to pray for Jerry for the month of September. Click here to sign up to pray for Jerry Slegle . Evangelism Team Launch. (Shout out to Lorna Lee, who was there, but is just outside the frame) Over the last 4 years of being at Wellspring, I've been out there hustling and doing evangelism consistently. To me, no lie, it's just fun. I realize that the idea of stopping a random person and starting a conversation about faith doesn't strike everyone as fun. I realize, to most people that's horrifying. I want to help people learn to get past the fear of sharing their faith whether it's in the random evangelism context or in the relational or family evangelism context. Just last week, we officially launched our Evangelism Team at Wellspring, and on our first outing, 4 people prayed to give their lives to Jesus, 2 others rededicated their lives, two people received a healing, and several others heard the word of God preached. A link to all the photos from the trip is at the end.  ______ Every 2 months, the movement hosts baptisms for those who recently gave their life to the Lord.  We got to join in the baptism service in Las Tunas.  Around 70 people walked into the waters of baptism. 70 individual people who chose Christ over this world.  Each shared a testimony and then each was prayed over by our team.  It took 3 hours...it was precious and powerful.  In America, I can only imagine that we would have felt a demand from culture to move Muy Rapido!  Not here.  Every person was important. Every salvation celebrated.  The last baptism service they hosted was a regional one in the ocean - 1,000 people got baptized...1,000 individuals chose Christ for the rest of their lives...Wow! As many of you know, we have a team on a mission trip with out ministry partners in a Latin American country that we don't mention by name in written or recorded mediums out of an abundance of caution. David has sent a few testimonies. Here are two that work well together, plus a bunch of pictures below. ________ Testimony from Day 1 (technically before Day 1) Every time we travel to Latin America, we designate our large checked bags to carry supplies that our in-country leaders request. The last 2 trips, they've conveyed to us the challenge of finding everyday medical supplies such as pain killers, antacids, vitamins, and feminine products. It's hard to imagine that LA is still largely living as an underdeveloped society...but with the knowledge of a developed one. Imagine knowing the basic medicine needed to help you feel better, but having no idea where to get it.   Two weeks ago, we had one of the largest VBS weeks in Wellspring history. This year, as in other years, we heard testimonies of kids starting their discipleship journeys with Jesus, encountering God, and hearing his voice. One of the things I love about VBS is that everyone gets really into it. I am usually in the Bible Drama Room, where we put on skits that include a fun science experiment and end with a moment where we minister to the kids.  I never get the idea that the BDR people are "too cool" to get really into it. On the contrary, sometimes I step back and marvel that a bunch of tired, working adults would spend so much time working on a skit for kids. This year the the Main Stage actors worked even harder! They were up at the church rehearsing numerous evenings and afternoons. Jerry, serving in the snack room at VBS As of the writing of this post, it’s 3:00 am. I woke up, realizing I hadn’t actually organized strategic prayer for Jerry Slagle yet, and this is no small matter. The original plan was to send out a VBS recap email, but that can wait until next week. Jerry has been fighting cancer for more than two years. Recently, he was given a very sad and scary report from his doctors that he only has limited time left, less than a year. However, two weeks before he got the report, a person on our prayer team had a dream that we believe was from God, telling us that “we need to pray for Jerry.”  Here is the text from that dream: Two weeks ago I had a very intense dream about Jerry Slagle.  In the dream, I knew that he was in a life or death scenario (I assumed the cancer).
