The power of worship & fasting

Image
Now that we’ve moved our emails back to Saturday, we’re putting all the notes that our note-taking team compiles during the sermons on their own separate blog post that you can find here: www.wellspringdfw.org/sermon-notes-1 I will probably share a little about this in an upcoming sermon, but I will share it here in more detail. Many of you know that a number of people in the church have been in a season of prayer and fasting for some time now. Many people on the Kenya team have experimented with fasting, some for the first time, some are pushing a little deeper into their fasting. I know of people who have fasted longer than they ever have in this recent season. I know of some people who have tried a Daniel fast for the first time in this season, and they are reaping the benefits of freedom from sugar! It’s a real thing. For myself, I have been in a season of fasting now for quite a while, and I have been praying for the Lord to restore my passion for prayer. I used to have a strong p...

A First For Me In Evangelism

When we went to the mall on Thursday for outreach, we walked by a store, and a young man inside was highlighted to me. It is somewhat hard to say what it means for someone to be "highlighted," but basically, when I see the person I start to feel a bit excited that if we talk to him or her, something will happen. We went into the store and began talking to the guy, but the conversation was bland at best. We shared the love of Christ with him, and I gave him a card for the church. Then two ladies walked by the front of the store, and they were highlighted to me as well, so we chased them down and began talking to them… And the conversation was even MORE bland than the first. As we were leaving that second encounter, I told the people I was with that that was two swings and two misses for me. Usually, when someone is highlighted, something noteworthy happens. However, I don’t get too discouraged by things like that. You just have to take chances. Once we had gotten a pretty good...

Saturday Emails & Exploding Eardrums

Image
Saturday Emails... Hey friends. We have finished our Make Disciples series, and we’re heading back to the book of Matthew, continuing in our Gospel of the Kingdom series. I’m glad to be back to Matthew because preaching exegetically through the scriptures is really my bread and butter as a teacher.  One thing we tried during Make Disciples was sending out the email on Monday along with sermon notes. The idea was that if we got notes to people as soon as possible after the sermon, small groups would all have them available through the week to help with discussion. We are still trying to determine how effective the notes were for that purpose, but we found out that hustling to put the email out on Monday cut into my precious sermon prep time for the next week pretty severely.  Therefore, we’re moving the email back to Saturday. If you loved getting the sermon notes please respond to this email and let us know.  Exploding eardrums… Last Sunday, the music during the first s...
